Nébih asks winemakers to be careful about must gas
The harvest season has begun, winemakers must pay attention to the dangers of must gas formation in their cellars, the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) told MTI on Wednesday.
Nébih recommends thorough ventilation in the rooms used for winemaking, and the well-known candle test is recommended for testing the air. In this way, it can be quickly and easily established whether caution is justified, as the must gas produced during the boiling of wine can cause death in high concentrations, they wrote.
If the flame goes out when held at waist height or lower, the cellar must be left immediately. The harvest is a special period in the life of winemakers, but even then they have to do their work carefully and responsibly to avoid the associated dangers, the announcement reads.
