Coronavirus: trade is still needed
One of the things the coronavirus crisis has taught us is that the world is dangerously vulnerable to supply chains in terms of medicines and medical devices (masks, ventilators). This lesson was drawn from the crisis by Peter Navarro, an influential adviser to US President Donald Trump. This can be a great temptation for individual countries to embark on protectionist economic policies and raise high hopes in regions like Central and Eastern Europe, whose countries may think that if the multis want to shorten their supply chains to China, then nothing is more natural than that they would install their production capacities in this area.
