Rice rationing hits UK consumers
The cost of rice has soared around the world in recent months – and the resultant shortages are beginning to hit home.
Some British supermarkets said they
were rationing sales of rice. In all of its 184 UK stores of discount
supermarket chain Netto customers are only allowed to buy one 10kg
bag each per visit. Netto says it's the only way to ensure all
customers have a fair chance to buy this staple product. Discount
chain Netto Lidl, meanwhile, has restricted individual sales to a
maximum of 20 kilogrammes to stop traders buying in bulk. This comes
after the shop noticed a trend of bulk buying by some shoppers. Tesco
limits rice buying in its Leicester shop, and some other chains has
also rationings.
