Mol Petrochemicals tested a circular raw material in Tiszaújváros
Circular feedstock was used at Mol Petrolkémia’s Tiszaújváros site, and the first trial production was successfully completed, the company told MTI on Monday.
The trial production proves that Mol is able to produce high-quality polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) using circular feedstock – in this case, feedstock from post-consumer plastic waste – according to the ISCC PLUS certified process.
This is an important step in the implementation of the company’s Shape Tomorrow strategy, one of the goals of which is to integrate the circular economy into production and strengthen Mol’s leading role in the field of sustainable petrochemicals in Central and Eastern Europe – the announcement highlighted.
Mol Petrolkémia in Tiszaújváros and Slovnaft in Bratislava received the ISCC PLUS certificate for the steam cracking and polymerization units in 2024. Exploiting synergies with waste management is an important element of the Mol Group’s Shape Tomorrow strategy.
The company aims to continue transforming its operations towards a circular chemical industry and produce up to 1.5 million tons of feedstock per year for the energy industry by 2030.
This is supported by a continuously expanding portfolio, which includes the municipal waste management concession in Hungary, previous plastic recycling acquisitions, and partnerships to develop chemical recycling technologies, they wrote.
