Lamb exports may decrease due to the early Easter and the change in Italian demand
Lamb exports may be 10-15 percent less this year, (compared to 2017, when lamb exports amounted to 120 thousand) because the weight of the lambs were low, due to the early Easter – the vice president of the Sheep Industry Council told MTI.
Bátor Árpád added: a significant part of the annual lamb export, 79 percent, about 519 thousand lambs were exported to the Italian market last year, and the amount of Easter lamb was about 20 percent of the export. Previously the Italian market demanded lambs weighing between 13 and 20 kilograms at Easter and families bought half or whole lambs. Now the demand switched to grilled lambs weighing 20 to 27 kilograms – he added. (MTI)
