Tesco set to launch book club with UK's biggest publisher
Tesco, the supermarket chain with more than 1200 stores in the UK, is expanding its retail empire by launching a book club in collaboration with the UK's biggest publisher, Random House.
Book clubs began in a more domestic way than the huge marketing
tool announced by Tesco. The Tesco Book Club will produce a special edition of
a Random House book each month, featuring additional content and a branded
bookmark, and will be sold for £3.73. The supermarket, which sells books at
around 600 of its branches, is already one of Britain's biggest booksellers and
intends to promote the scheme with a nationwide in-store campaign and e-mails
to shoppers.
