Consolidation in truck production
Half of the world market of medium and heavy commercial vehicles is shared between six companies. Volvo (already the owner of Renault VI-t and Mack) acquired Nissan Diesel in March. Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner and Mitsubishi Fuso belong to Daimler-Chrysler, while .DAF has been the member of the Paccar-group for years. However, MAN has failed to buy Scania. Only those vehicle manufacturers survive which can offer a complete product range from light commercial vehicles to the biggest articulated trucks.
