”Tears in the Water” – Charity benefit concert
About thirty popular Hungarian performers and bands have joined forces and performed at the “Tears in the Water” charity concert on Sunday, July 6th at the Puskás Statue Park. The proceeds from the sale of concert tickets will be used to help families in difficult situations living in flood-stricken settlements in Székely.
The benefit concert is being held at the initiative of the Ismerős Arcok band, with the participation of the Ecumenical Relief Organization and with the support of Szerencsejáték Zrt. The support for the good cause has been supported by performers such as Magna Cum Laude, Curtis, Radics Gigi, the Hooligans, the Edda Művek, the Csík band, Tamás Veréb, the Budapest Ragtime Band, P. Mobil, Beatrice and Kelemen Kabátban, but the list does not end there.
Due to the heavy rains that hit Székely Land at the end of May, streams and rivers overflowed their banks throughout the region, causing enormous damage. The natural disaster made the homes of residents in many settlements uninhabitable, so the residents of Prajd and Nagyborosnyó were particularly affected by the situation.
The Hungarian Ecumenical Relief Organization undertook to collect donations and deliver them to those in need.
The Ecumenical Relief Organization organized a nationwide fundraising campaign to alleviate the situation. Thanks to this, several tons of aid shipments have already arrived for the flood victims in Székely Land in the recent period. Kristóf Gáncs, the executive director of the Ecumenical Relief Organization, said:
“What is needed most now is financial donations, because this is the most effective way to help the families in trouble to start over.”
He added: “The most important thing now is solidarity in action, to express our sympathy in action.”
The national lottery company is also participating in alleviating the situation and has joined the initiative as a supporter. The company will sell its products at several locations in the Puskás Statue Park and the entire amount raised will also be used to help Prajd and other flood-affected settlements.
