The Hungarian sports retail market is facing a significant change of ownership: Hervis is selling its Hungarian and Romanian subsidiaries to the British Frasers Group, the company confirmed. The transaction may be closed after obtaining competition authority permits, the purchase price was not disclosed.

According to the agreement, Frasers – formerly known as Sports Direct – will take over Hervis Sport és Divatkereskedelmi Kft.’s 29 domestic stores, as well as the Romanian interest with 49 stores. The company announced that the employees will be employed and the stores will continue to operate.

The outsourcing will not affect Hervis’ units in other countries: the stores in Austria, Slovenia and Croatia will remain under the control of the parent company, which is owned by Spar Austria.

The group generated gross sales of more than €490 million from 227 stores in the region in the 2024 financial year, but recorded a loss of €43 million. The decision may be driven by market consolidation and efficiency considerations.

The transaction will allow Frasers Group to further strengthen its presence in the Central and Eastern European sports retail market, while Hervis can focus on its core markets and operational stabilization.
