Ban British finance minister from pubs
A blogger-led internet campaign aiming to ban British finance minister Alastair Darling from U.K. pubs after he raised alcohol taxes appears to be making headway.
The campaign to prevent Darling,
Britain's chancellor of the exchequer, from entering pubs has
draughted more than 1,000 supporters on several Facebook groups,
while bars in several communities have jumped on the bandwagon.
Drinkers are upset because Darling's
March 12 budget raised taxes on alcohol, hiking the cost of a pint by
roughly eight cents and a bottle of wine by about 30 cents. He also
raised the cost of cigarettes and cars.
