Delivered vegan meals were examined by Nébih
The experts of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) examined vegan ready meals delivered to the home. A total of 13 ready meals, five pizzas, five hamburgers and three snickers bars were placed on the Süpermenta table. On-site inspections were also carried out in six catering establishments: in four cases, the specialists initiated proceedings, and the activities of one business were temporarily suspended at the beginning of the summer.
In several cases, laboratory tests have also detected protein of animal origin in foods promised to be vegan.
In its statement sent to MTI on Thursday, Nébih reminds us that meat-free or completely plant-based meals are becoming more and more popular, so they can be found in the offer of more and more restaurants that also offer delivery.
Eight of the 13 catering units examined only prepare vegan dishes, and five places – in addition to vegan dishes – also have dishes containing ingredients of animal origin on the menu.
During the test, the experts checked the cleanliness of the shipping boxes. Samples were taken from the outer and inner surfaces of seven boxes, the laboratory tests of which ended with a reassuring result, as none indicated contamination.
Cleanliness samples taken from the box of the delivered food also did not show any microbiological contamination. However, coagulase-positive staphylococci were found in one food, bacillus cereus in three cases, and coliform in four samples during the laboratory tests.
