Retail surcharge, public health product tax changes
On May 25, it was announced that the Government would establish a general defense fund and a national defense fund to cover the costs of overhead reduction and strengthening the military. The source of these two funds would be created by the Government by taxing some sectors that acquire “extra profits”. Although several details of the special sectoral taxes have already become known, the official legislation was only published in the Hungarian Gazette on Pentecost weekend. The change also takes the form of a retail surcharge and affects the Public Health Product Tax (“chips tax”).
