A small boat stop network is being established on the southern shore of Lake Balaton
A network of small boat stops consisting of six stations, called the South Balaton Water Circle, will be established on the southern shore of Lake Balaton with a grant of 250 million forints. Some of the developments will be implemented by the summer, and the entire project by the end of the year, István Szépvölgyi, the executive director of the Hungarian Sailing Academy, told MTI.
The development, which is mostly related to existing ports, is being implemented within the framework of the Széchenyi Plan Plus program, co-financed by the European Union, from the non-refundable support of the Regional and Settlement Development Operational Program Plus, he said.
Within the framework of another project, six more stops are planned to be established on the northern shore of the lake, but due to a lack of funding for their application, it has been put on the reserve list for the time being, he added.
The stations will be accessible to anyone, kayakers and canoeists can also use them, and sailboat rental opportunities will also be provided in several places, the executive explained.
According to the announcement issued on Wednesday’s project launch event of the South Balaton Water Circle, the aim of the investment is to create a sufficient number and equipped water launch sites for active water tourists, guests arriving at Lake Balaton, as well as residents and holiday home owners in the area. The landing sites will have a uniform, easily recognizable image.
“This investment fills an old gap, as there are very few opportunities around Lake Balaton to launch so-called svertes sailboats or sailing boats”
– the announcement quoted Alajos László Gellér, president of the Hungarian Sailing Association.
