More cereal grown on a smaller area this year
In Hungary, 5.7 million tons of cereal was harvested in 2011, 8 percent more than in 2010, and on a 5 percent less area than last year on 1.4 million hectares – reports the Central Statistical Office.
Wheat's yield increased by 10 percent to 4.1 million tonnes, while the cultivated area declined to 3 percent to 980 thousand hectares. The average yield is 4,210 kilograms per hectare. The yield in the average of the previous five years was 7 percent below – reports MTI.
