China is world leader in food consumption
According to a recent British study, food consumption in China overtook the food consumption of the United States. According to the datas of IGD, in 2011, Chinese food stores reached a turnover of 970 billion USD, compared to the 913.5 billion USD turnover of the U.S. stores.
Due to the rapid economic increase, growing wealth and the rising of food prices, the sales of the Chinese grocery stores were greater than the sales of American food stzores last year – shows the analysis of IGD. According to their forecasts a further growth is expected in 2012 and 2013. By the end of 2014 sales the sales of the Chinese grocery stores can reach 1,460 billion USD, which is a three-fold increase compared to 2006. (portfolio.hu)
