China is giving new impetus to grain production
China’s agriculture is entering a new era: the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has announced that it will increase the country’s grain production by 50 million tons, with a special focus on corn and soybean production. The goal is not only to increase the quantity, but also to modernize agriculture and rural areas, improve production efficiency and ensure a stable, safe grain supply. The move also means that farmers will have more opportunities to produce more efficiently and consciously, while also strengthening the country’s food security.

Part of modernization is that farmers will have access to new technologies and cultivation methods that will promote quality and quantity growth. This move could transform the country’s rural life in the long term, as farmers need new tools, modern solutions and market awareness, while sustainable land use remains a priority.
More grains, sustainable land use
The plan does not only focus on corn and soybeans: the NDRC says it will also expand the cultivation of silage corn, alfalfa and special, high-quality crops. This will allow farmers to improve not only the quantity but also the quality of their crops and diversify production, which will ensure more stable income in the long term. Increasing the production of high-quality fodder crops will also support domestic livestock farming, as premium fodder directly improves the profits of local farmers and the quality of rural life. At the same time, the program focuses on land protection and sustainable use. Strict protection of arable land, balanced land use and the introduction of compensation mechanisms mean that farmers will receive support for optimal use of land while also protecting the environment. This combination will ensure the stability of production and the sustainability of rural life in the long term.
Demand, supply and opportunities for farmers
The demand for feed grains is constantly growing, with corn and soybeans as the backbone. However, domestic soybean supply is still low, leaving China largely dependent on imports. In 2025, corn production reached 301.2 million tons, while soybean production was 23.9 million tons. This situation poses a challenge for the country, but it also opens up new opportunities for domestic producers, who can gain a market advantage by producing quality feed crops and special varieties. Access to market information is of paramount importance for farmers, as prices, export opportunities and production trends are also changing rapidly. The AgriSupp platform helps with this, providing daily market data, analyses and historical information from the Black Sea and Danube regions, so farmers can always plan and make decisions on optimizing their production in a timely manner.
What does this mean for rural life?
This plan is not just about more grain: the focus is on quality, sustainability and modernization. Farmers will have new opportunities to produce more efficiently and consciously, while rural communities will also be more stable. Modern technologies and market awareness can create a future of rural life, where tradition and innovation go hand in hand. At the same time, higher yields and higher quality crops will also bring benefits to consumers: more stable supply, more diverse dietary options and more sustainable production. Thus, modern Chinese agriculture opens a new chapter not only for farmers, but for all actors in rural life.
