Outstanding hybrids, efficient technology – Syngenta presented its new solutions
The farmers who visited the Syngenta crop-EX events, where they could view the company’s wide range of corn and sunflower hybrids and experience the impact of innovative, modern technology in the field of plant protection.
Maize and sunflower are of strategic importance
In 2024, the area planted with corn increased slightly: according to Syngenta data, farmers sowed 900,000 to 930,000 hectares. The heat that lasted for several weeks in July affected plants throughout the country, and a severe drought occurred in the south-eastern part of the country. This year, there was a minimal decrease in the sunflower sowing area compared to 2023, but the total area of oil sunflower still exceeds 650,000 hectares. The forecasts show that there will be big differences in the yield level according to the local rainfall and soil conditions, but among the spring crops, even under such conditions, the sunflower is the most stable.
Syngenta thinks together with farmers
In the recent period, Syngenta launched the “We grow together” campaign, the main goal of which is to advance transgenerational value together with farmers. The fine-tuning of technological elements raises farming to a higher level. Therefore, at the Crop-EX events, farmers could not see a classic variety presentation, but instead received a complete sunflower cultivation technology recommendation based on the experience of Syngenta’s 6-ton program, so that they could fully exploit the high genetic potential inherent in hybrids. During the presentation, the species-specific (e.g. nutrient supply, sowing time, sowing depth) and variety-specific (row and plant spacing, number of plants) agrotechnical elements that must be optimized for successful sunflower cultivation were presented.
