The average price of this year’s Easter eggs could be around ninety forints
The average consumer price of eggs for Easter could be around 90 forints, which means that buyers can get the food inseparable from the holiday at about the same price level as two years ago – according to an analysis published by Agroinform.hu on Tuesday.
As they added, market players do not expect a shortage, but it is not worth waiting until the last few days to shop.
The announcement quotes Csaba Héjja, strategic analyst of the agricultural and food business of MBH Bank, who says that the margin freeze has caused an overall single-digit price decrease in the store price of eggs. The average price that has now set in could rise further as the peak season approaches, as supplier prices have not been frozen, so their increase could automatically increase the consumer price as well. But market trends now indicate that there will be no significant price changes in the coming weeks, he explained.
Domestic producers will be able to meet about three-quarters of demand this year as well – the rest will be supplemented by imports from trade as usual. Locally, a daily egg shortage may occur randomly, so those who want to be on the safe side can safely shop for Easter now: this product has a 28-day warranty under proper storage conditions – Agroinform wrote.
It is recalled that according to KSH data, 2.4 billion eggs were produced in Hungary in 2023, 3.6 percent less than a year earlier. Annual egg consumption per capita was 233 pieces on average, which was 3 percent below the average consumption level of the previous five years.
