The atmosphere in tourism near peak
In March 2025, tourism sector players still considered their situation to be fundamentally stable, according to the current data of the Tourism Business Index (TKI). According to a joint research by VIMOSZ, the Hungarian Tourism Association Foundation and GKI Economic Research Ltd., the sector is maintaining its mood near its nine-month peak, with the index value decreasing by only 1 point compared to the previous month.
The assessment is almost neutral – but better than that of most sectors
The TKI value in March stood at -1 point, on a scale between -100 and +100, this represents the “neutral” zone. The sector therefore perceives its situation not as a deterioration, but rather as stagnation, which is more favorable than that of most sectors of the national economy: the business index measured for services is -5 points, the total business confidence index is -12 points, while industry, construction and trade show an even more pessimistic picture (-14, -24 and -22 points).
Mixed picture in sub-sectors
There were minor shifts between sub-sectors:
In accommodation services, the index stands at -1 point, which represents a decrease of 1 point.
Among other tourism service providers, the indicator fell to -3 points (a decrease of 5 points).
On the other hand, hospitality shows a slight improvement: the index increased by 2 points, thus reaching 0 points.
In annual comparison, a 1-point improvement can be observed in the TKI. The largest positive change is in hospitality: the index of the sub-sector increased by 4 points compared to March 2024, while accommodation services and other tourism sectors performed slightly weaker (a decrease of 1 and 2 points, respectively).
