The euro area trade deficit is on a nine-year record

Euro area: Eurostat reports significant foreign trade deficit
The first estimate of euro area merchandise exports to the rest of the world in December 2021 is 218.7 billion euros, an increase of 14.1 percent on December 2020 ( 191.7 billion euros).
Imports from the rest of the world were 223.3 billion euros, up 36.7 percent from 163.4 billion euros of a year before, mainly due to higher energy imports. (MTI)
