ChatGPT receives a challenger
The world’s number one open source Large Language Model (LLM) has been publicly introduced and widely available. Falcon 40B, which has a capacity of 40 billion parameters and was trained on one trillion lexical elements (tokens) on Amazon SageMaker, the cloud-based machine learning platform of Amazon Web Services. The development of the Technological Innovation Institute in Abu Dhabi can now be used by researchers and business actors worldwide.
By open-sourcing the high-performance and accurate language model, users can access the Falcon 40B’s weights, i.e. the parameters that determine its behavior and performance. With this, I would like to promote the transparency and accountability of the model, as well as support research and development on language models in all kinds of sectors, from healthcare to space research, finance and biotechnology.
Users can access the Falcon 40B through Amazon SageMaker and apply its capabilities to, among other things, translation and content creation, answering questions about scientific, technical and many other topics of interest, compiling analyses, or even identifying images. Falcon LLMs are also available in Amazon SageMaker JumpStart, SageMaker’s machine learning (ML) hub, which offers built-in algorithms and ready-made solution templates to help users quickly get started with ML. Falcon LLMs can be installed and used by anyone in SageMaker Studio or programmatically via the SageMaker Python SDK.
