The Ministry of Agriculture awards scholarships to students from developing countries within the framework of the AM-FAO scholarship program to continue their master’s level agricultural studies at Hungarian universities, thereby expanding the knowledge base of agricultural production in the countries concerned. The Ministry of Agriculture organized an opening professional meeting for students admitted for this academic year, on which occasion Dr. Oszkár Ökrös, Deputy Secretary of State for International Relations, welcomed the new students. In his welcoming speech, he said that reducing food shortages serves to keep the population in place, and developing the agriculture and rural areas of needy countries is an effective means of preventing migration based on the principle of “we bring help to the place”. During the program, 21 students from developing countries can begin their master’s studies in Hungary this year. The majority of graduates return to their home countries and attain higher positions, so we can also base the development of our agricultural foreign relations on them and the expansion of our agricultural sector’s foreign market relations system.
