Sweet white champagne enjoying outstanding popularity
Sales of champagne totalled HUF 11,5 billion in the October 2007–September 2008 period, showing year on year growth of 5 percent. Modern store types account for the largest part of sales, with hyper markets holding a market share of 43 percent, and 401-2 500 square meter stores holding 35 percent. Sweet champagne continues to enjoy outstanding popularity, accounting for two-thirds of total sales. Private labels failed to produce growth in the above period, with their market share stagnating at 18 percent in terms of quantity. Average prices rose in all segments. The market share of imported champagnes was up by 2 percent, while that of Hungarian products dropped to 74 percent.
