The 42nd session of the CCMAS held in Budapest ended with great success

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the members of the specialist committee were able to meet again in person after four years. More than 150 experts from nearly 50 countries and 10 international organizations participated in the discussions in Budapest – including seven delegates in the framework of a project financed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as the IAEA considers the development and dissemination of test methods to promote food safety to be an important task. Almost without exception, all working documents were approved at the virtual adoption of the report on June 20. Thanks to this, after the fall session of the Main Committee, they can adopt the guide on measurement uncertainty, the document summarizing the sampling rules, and update the standards and measurement methods used in the field of processed fruits and vegetables and fats and oils in the collection of currently used methods. After the successful conference, the specialist committee defined new topics, which the board members will deal with in electronic working groups during the year, and finally the results will be presented at a professional meeting in May 2024.
According to the decision of the delegates, the committee will continue its work in the following areas in the future, among others:
- overview of the methods of fruit juices, fish and fishery products
- determination of nitrite and nitrate performance criteria
- development of the application that helps sampling
- in the case of allergens, facilitating the selection of appropriate analytical methods
