BMW had an outstanding year in Hungary in 2025

The BMW Group’s performance expanded globally last year amid the challenges of the automotive industry, with strong European sales, which were also supported by outstanding Hungarian sales – the Managing Director of BMW Group Hungary announced at a press conference in Budapest on Thursday.

Zoltán Gombos described the year 2025 as a decisive success, according to his formulation, the results show that the German automaker is showing direction in difficult market conditions by being at the forefront of the development of electric technology, while at the same time remaining committed to technology neutrality. 2025 was a milestone for the brand, from then on it can offer an electric alternative in all car segments.

According to the data presented at the press conference, the BMW Group sold 2,463,715 vehicles globally in 2025, an increase of 0.5 percent. In Europe, sales reached 1,016,360 units, the growth in this market was 7.3 percent.

BMW Group Hungary sold 7,732 new vehicles, showing a growth of 23.2 percent. The result exceeds the performance of both the entire new car market, which expanded by 6.4 percent, and the premium segment, which grew by 4.9 percent. In BMW’s Hungarian sales, the ratio of private and corporate customers is 40-60 percent, which the managing director considers a healthy ratio.

7,052 vehicles from the BMW brand were sold on the Hungarian new car market last year, an increase of 22 percent. This makes BMW the leading player in the premium segment for the third year in a row, where its share increased to 34.1 percent by the end of the year from 29.4 percent in 2024.

In Hungary, the premium segment accounted for 15 percent of the 129,440 passenger cars sold in 2025.

The group’s other brand, MINI, also performed well, with sales of 680 vehicles setting a new record, an increase of 38 percent.

BMW and MINI are pure electric vehicles (BEV) models were sold in Hungary in 2025, a 59 percent increase compared to the previous year. Combined sales of pure electric and plug-in hybrid BMW and MINI models reached 2,328 units, an increase of more than 33 percent compared to 2024. BMW is the third brand in the total electric new car market, and the most popular BEV model in Hungary is the iX1, which accounted for 38.8 percent of the brand’s BEV sales last year.

The press conference also reported on the performance of BMW’s engine business in Hungary, which also had a stable year: it was able to increase its sales in 2024 by 771 units, or 3.8 percent. In the category above 500 cc, the growth was 5 percent with 676 engines sold.

The managing director expects BMW to be able to show stable growth in 2026 despite market uncertainties. According to him, the premium segment in the Hungarian new car market still lags behind that of neighboring countries, and he sees growth potential in this. He has high hopes for this year’s new models, especially the iX3 model manufactured in Debrecen, whose European sales start in March.
