LG receives cybersecurity certification
LG Electronics (LG) recently received Level 3 certification for its Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) from global testing and certification agency TÜV Rheinland. This is the highest level of certification available in its category, demonstrating LG’s commitment to secure product development, manufacturing, and real-world user applications.
The CSMS certification, which demonstrates compliance with ISO/SAE 21434 and UN R155 regulations, is now a mandatory requirement for automakers in 56 markets. The certification involves comprehensive assessments, including simulated cyberattacks, to identify vulnerabilities in security measures and processes. With the new CSMS certification, LG has moved from Level 2 to Level 3, demonstrating the company’s commitment to meeting increasingly stringent cybersecurity requirements.
LG follows the ASPICE (Automotive SPICE, a widely recognized international standard for evaluating automotive software development processes) framework in line with industry best practices. Developed by the Automotive Special Interest Group, a group of leading European automakers, ASPICE provides a systematic approach to evaluating and improving vehicle software development processes. LG has been recognized for its implementation of ASPICE for Cybersecurity, an extension of ASPICE that includes several additional cybersecurity assessments.
As the automotive industry increasingly focuses on software-based vehicles, LG remains at the forefront of addressing evolving cybersecurity challenges. In addition to adopting globally recognized certifications such as CSMS and the ASPICE framework, LG has also strengthened its position in the industry through strategic initiatives, such as the acquisition of Israeli automotive cybersecurity company Cybellum in 2021.
