Who is the data protection official?
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union affects all businesses, including hotels and restaurants as they also manage personal data. By 25 May every company prepared for complying with the GDPR rules. However, these rules must also be used in practice in daily operations.
If a company has to manage large volumes of personal data or do so on a daily basis, it is rather likely that they must appoint a data protection official. This person isn’t the company’s data protection consultant, but an ‘inspector’ who is independent from everyone, who must perform their tasks objectively, but should also be familiar with the operations of the company – we were informed by GDPR expert and advertising law specialist Dr Zsófia Bitai. //
