K&H: financial bankruptcy can be avoided with a few thousand forints
When planning a trip, many people focus only on accommodation and programs, and the importance of travel insurance is often overlooked. However, the average premiums and the largest claims payments in previous years clearly demonstrate that an unexpected event can easily ruin a carefully planned vacation and impose a serious financial burden on the traveler. At K&H, the average premium for individual travel insurance in 2019 was 7 thousand forints, which reached 8 thousand forints by 2024. Claims payment statistics clearly show that protection is essential, as the value of the highest payments approached 50 million forints.
In the case of foreign card purchases, it is important to know that the bank settles transactions at the selling exchange rate. Since card companies typically calculate in euros or dollars, more currency conversions may occur in accounts held in forints. For this reason, it is always recommended to use the local currency when making payments, because if the terminal offers the amount in forints – dynamic currency exchange – it typically results in a less favorable exchange rate. K&H is offering an advantageous option from May 22: it will give its customers a subsequent refund up to the K&H mid-rate for foreign card purchases – the financial institution announced, which also provides further advice for foreign payments.
“This is not the first time that K&H has offered a cashback offer for card use abroad, which can now mean savings for more than 235 thousand customers. The success of the previous discount period is well demonstrated by the total refund of more than 80 million forints, meaning that our customers actively took advantage of the opportunity. The discount is easy to use, there is no need to move the money to another mobile app or bank for the duration of the holiday due to a more favorable exchange rate, it only needs to be activated in the cashback menu of the K&H mobile bank and they will receive the refund afterwards. This year, our customers can receive a refund after spending even 700,000 forints per month on their purchases or ATM cash withdrawals abroad. This solution encourages travelers to choose the usual, convenient and fast payment with the K&H card during their trips abroad,”
– said Zoltán Rammacher, Marketing Manager of the K&H Retail Customer Segment.
It is also worth paying attention to ATM usage
Withdrawing cash abroad often incurs additional costs, as the bank converts the amount at its own exchange rate, and the ATM operator may also charge an additional fee. Therefore, using cash is recommended only when necessary, for example, if electronic payments are not available in smaller local stores or service providers.
