K&H: young people are talking about such high food prices
A quarter of young people feel that prices have increased by more than 40 percent in the past year, and 22 percent of them believe that annual inflation was 25-39 percent in February. In the case of food, 76 percent perceived a significant price increase, but the situation was similar for other products and services, according to the K&H youth index survey.
In line with the inflation facts, the world has turned around for young people. In the first half of last year, they did not notice a major price increase, but at the beginning of this year, members of the 19-29 age group noticed a significant increase in prices, according to the results of the first quarter of the K&H youth index. The proportion of those complaining about huge price increases has definitely increased year-on-year for almost all examined product and service groups.
At the beginning of last year, only in the case of food and beverages did the proportion of respondents who said that the price of these products increased significantly exceed 50 percent. In January-March last year, 57 percent of them, and 60 percent in April, said that food and beverages had become significantly more expensive. This year, i.e. in the first quarter of 2023, the proportion of those who experienced a significant price increase remained below 50 percent, 49 percent to be exact. In the case of all other product groups and services – food, drinks, entertainment, housing and child-related expenses, clothes – this ratio was higher than 50 percent.
