K&H: cash is not cool
Young people basically stick to their Christmas customs, also from the point of view that they still buy the majority of gifts in person, in a traditional store, but there is a change, according to a recent K&H survey. Cosmetics and clothes are popular products, but cash is less so. Many people already prefer “online gifts”.
The majority of young people in their twenties – 84 percent – prepare gifts for the holidays. Among the surprises are evergreen products: 46-68 percent of young people aged 19-29 would buy cosmetics, clothing, food and drink, books and experience gifts, according to the recent K&H youth index survey. On average, young gift-givers give gifts to seven people: most of them – 76 percent – their parents, 61 percent their partners or spouses, and 34-34 percent friends and relatives.
54 percent of women and 34 percent of men plan to give a self-made gift. When it comes to giving jewelry as gifts, men lead the way with a rate of 48 percent, while women are less popular. 35 percent of those surveyed plan to give a mobile phone or other electronic item as a gift – this may be due to the fact that these devices are quite expensive for people in their twenties to give as gifts. 49 percent of men and 20 percent of women plan to give movies, music, and software as gifts, which indicates that many people already prefer “online” products and services.
