K&H: a fiatalok többsége drágulásra számít
19-29-year-olds still perceived high annual inflation of 25 percent at the beginning of May, which does not mean a slowdown compared to the annual level measured in February. The vast majority of young people, 72 percent, are looking for cheaper, discount or own-brand foods – it is clear from the second quarter K&H youth index survey. According to the results of the research, the majority of young people do not expect inflationary pressure to ease by the end of the year.
Although inflation is slowing down according to official data, young people do not really feel it – the K&H youth index reveals. According to the members of the 19-29 age group, the annual inflation was 25 percent between May 2022 and April of this year, in February they spoke of a level of 26 percent going back to the same one-year period, while according to KSH data, prices increased by 21.5 and 25.4 percent year-on-year in the months in question.
According to the results of the research, 40 percent of young people in their twenties perceived a price increase of less than 20 percent for the products they bought, including food, clothes and various services. This represents an improvement compared to February: then only 34 percent spoke of a price increase of less than 20 percent. 10 percent of young people experienced inflation similar to the official inflation data – 20-24 percent – compared to the February research, when this was true for 15 percent of them. In addition, 22 percent of the respondents in May, while 25 percent three months earlier said a price level increase of over 40 percent.
