K&H: more than a fifth of young people are unable to put it aside
The overall picture of young people’s savings remains mixed according to the K&H youth index. The vast majority of them, 78 percent, put it aside regularly or occasionally, while 22 percent do not have the opportunity to do so. The proportion of the latter shows improvement in the longer term, but no progress has been made in recent years. According to the latest data, saving young people crossed the six-digit range with their HUF 109,000 savings.
Many young people try to prepare for the future, i.e. a significant part of them tries to save. According to the K&H youth index, in the first quarter of this year, only 22 percent of young people consciously set aside regularly at the beginning of the month – this is the lowest ratio of the last 2 years’ measurements so far – while 16 percent put away the remaining amount at the end of the month. 17 percent, 23 percent of them save regularly, but not on a monthly basis, which is the highest rate measured since the beginning of 2022, even though they can only save if they receive a larger amount. In total, the vast majority of those surveyed, 78 percent, save at some level. At the same time, this also means that at least a fifth of them, 22 percent, are not used to it at all or for some reason have not been able to put it aside recently.
