Less feed was produced in 2022 than the previous year
In Hungary, mixing plants produced 3.637 million tons of livestock feed mixture in 2022, 8.1 percent less than the previous year. Poultry feed accounted for 1.786 million tons, 49.1 percent of the compound feed produced. Pig feed accounted for 1.321 million tons and cattle feed for 402.9 thousand tons of production in 2022.
The amount of broiler feed produced decreased by 5.3 percent, egg feed by 2.1 percent, and turkey feed production by 18.2 percent in 2022. The decline was also significant in the waterfowl segment: the production of duck and goose feed was 20.2 and 35 percent less compared to the previous year, respectively. Pig feed production decreased by 4.4 percent and cattle feed by 6.9 percent compared to 2021.
Feed ranking
49.6 percent of poultry feed was made up of mixtures for broilers (887 thousand tons), 19.7 percent (351 thousand tons) of egg feed, and 15.8 percent of turkey feed. Duck feed accounted for 10.4 percent of poultry feed and goose feed for 4.5 percent. Pig feed accounted for 36.3 percent and cattle feed for 11.1 percent of the total production in 2022. Feeds for other ruminants accounted for only 1.1 percent of the total production. The ratio of the combined amount of fish feed and other (horse, rabbit, game, etc.) feed was 2.4 percent, i.e. 86 thousand tons.
