There will be less sugar beet this year
Due to low sugar prices, the domestic producers grow sugar beet on a smaller area of around 1500 hectares this year; the processor plans to contract a little over 14,000 hectares with the farmers. While sowing is in progress, inland waters continue to cause major headaches to the growers, presumably there will be areas where they can not do the work in time – Magyar Idők online wrote.
Magyar Cukor Zrt. contracts this year for less sugar than usual, so farmers can deal with production on 14,1-14,2 thousand hectares this year. Berki Gyula, President of the National Association of Sugar Beet growers, told Magyar Idők that the planned sowing area will be around 1500 hectares from the average of previous years. (MTI)
