Less sausage and salami sold in the first four months
Gfk Hungária’s data indicate that Hungarian households purchased less sausage and salami than a year ago. In the first four months of 2009 sausage sales went down by 7 percent, while salami sales decreased by more than 17 percent. The thick sausage segment sharply declined by 19 percent in terms of quantity, but thin sausage sales improved by 5 percent. As for salamis, the number of households buying the category was reduced by more than 15 percent. The biggest segment in this category is that of prime quality salamis, followed by paprika salamis and salami mixes. As for private labels, there is a certain stability among sausages, with producer brand salamis showing an upward trend.
