Lower biscuit and wafer sales than a year before
According to GfK Hungária’s Consumer Scan survey, in the November 2008-October 2009 period Hungarian households bought 11 percent less sweet biscuits than a year earlier. Biscuit selection, honey macaroon and chocolate-coated biscuit sales fell the most, while household biscuits managed to grow. More than 80 percent of households bought some kind of sweet biscuit, but at fewer occasions and in lower quantity than a year earlier. The average household bought 6.2 kg of sweet biscuit. In the examined period 13 percent less wafers were bought; the average purchase was 2.7 kg. The number of buyers was stable, but both buying frequency and quantity decreased.
