Dry weather is bad for agriculture
Despite the rain falls of the recent days, 200 millimeters are still missing from the usual amount of precipitation. The dry weather can cause more than 100 billion HUF losses to agriculture.
The Ministry of Agriculture has not been declared the country or certain areas as a drought-stricken area yet, but according to several professionals the production volume of cereals for the autumn can be only half of last year’s. The dry heat is also harmful for fruit trees. The irrigation water in the country is very limited, and in addition it is expensive, 1,50-1,80 HUF per cubic meters. Now many of the farmers are activating their old wells or make a new one –reports Népszabadság Online.
