Hungary’s watermelon producing area should be doubled
Over the past ten years, the watermelon producing area never had been so small, as this year. Since the EU accession, seven years ago, the watermelon producing area decreased by 60 percent.
Despite watermelon is Hungary’s best exportable vegetable (60 percent of the crop goes abroad), it has only 10 billion HUF share from the total 200 billion HUF worth crop volume in the domestic fruit and vegetable sector – said Mártonffy Béla, chairman of FruitVeB.
According to Mártonffy Béla; to maintain this market, and even strengthen it, Hungary’s watermelon producing area should be doubled – reports szabadfold.hu.
