More and more people have savings, and the average amount set aside each month has more than doubled in five years, and this year already exceeds HUF 46,000. Most people still swear by traditional means, primarily putting aside in some form of insurance or savings accounts, but the role of pension fund savings and securities investments is also growing. The share of cryptocurrency in savings has more than doubled in two years.

Hungarians who can save saved an average of HUF 46,135 per month this year, more than twice as much as five years earlier (HUF 21,970 in 2019). The increase is also outstanding because the real spendable income of the population rose by slightly more than 15 percent during this period. The willingness to save has therefore increased significantly over the past five years, partly due to the replenishment of reserves after the positive real income turnaround, more cautious consumption dynamics, the uncertain economic situation, and still high inflation expectations.

At the same time, Hungarians are becoming more and more aware of their finances: while in 2019 70 percent thought it was important to set aside money, in 2024 this proportion was already 80 percent, according to the IMAS International report prepared for Erste Group, which has a bank relationship older than 15 years. from representative research conducted among the population.

According to the survey, there are more and more people who have savings, 84 percent of respondents said so, while in 2019 this proportion was only 65 percent. Among those who save, 54 percent put the same amount aside each month, while 46 percent put away what is left at the end of the month or year. 11 percent of Hungarian bank customers are very satisfied, while another 22 percent are more satisfied with the amount they can save, in contrast, 29 percent are not at all satisfied, and another 15 percent are rather not satisfied with what they can put aside.
