More than 2 million people voted for local community projects supporting the young generation in Tesco’s “Start for the Future” application program to decide which ones will receive the most support. The 171 winning organizations will share a total of 57 million forints. The organization that collects the most votes in all 58 districts will receive 500 thousand forints, the second place will receive 300 thousand, while the third place will receive 150 thousand forints to implement its project, and five special prize winners and one gold token winner will receive even more. Thus, initiatives primarily improving the living conditions of children can be created in 125 settlements with the help of the department store chain.
Between January 19 and February 15, a total of more than 2 million Tesco customers across the country voted on supporting community projects to be implemented in their neighborhoods within the framework of the Start for the Future program. In 58 districts, they threw the tokens received after shopping into the token collectors placed in the forecourts of the stores to decide which of three local projects would receive the largest amount. The first place winner in each district will receive 500,000 forints, the second 300,000, and the third 150,000 forints to implement their application initiative, primarily for developments targeting children and young adults under the age of 25, so that they can start their lives in the best possible conditions.
“The most exciting phase of our application program has come to an end. Now we have given the opportunity to our customers to decide, who thus had a say in the order of 171 applications. The most votes, nearly 44 thousand, were cast at the Tesco hypermarket in Békéscsaba, and the most votes nationwide, approximately 113 thousand, were cast for the screening program for children aged 0-3 years old of the Gézengúz Foundation for Birth Defects in Győr-Moson-Sopron County. I am very pleased that through our application program we can contribute to the implementation of the most important initiatives for local communities in 125 settlements. As part of our special Golden Token event, customers of the hypermarket on Rókus körút in Szeged could try to pull out the only golden token out of 100, in order to be rewarded with half a million forints in one move. one of the competing applications in the given area. After a lot of excitement and anticipation, the lucky customer decided immediately and offered the extra support for the implementation of the experience-based development of children with special educational needs”
– said Nóra Hevesi, Head of Communications at Tesco-Global Zrt.Earlier this year, Tesco customers could vote for, among other things, the organization of a small cooking camp, a school biodynamic gardening club, the creation of a bug-friendly park, planetarium and farm activities, a community bicycle tour, preparation for the high school graduation of disadvantaged children, and an inclusive talent search program.
Based on the number of tokens, Tesco will support the winning organizations nationwide with 57 million forints, and will award a special prize of 370 thousand forints each to the “Helyet!” in Jászberény. Foundation, the Baranya County Crossroads Foundation, the Palini Inkey Boldizsár Elementary School in Nagykanizsa, the Békés County Library and the Kispest Social Service Center for their creativity and comprehensive approach. Thanks to the Aranyzseton event held on February 13, the Szeged Sólyom Street Helping Hands Foundation’s animal-assisted therapy program will receive an additional 500 thousand forints in support.
Independent experts from the Effekteam Association selected those that advanced to the voting stage from more than 300 applications received in the third round of “Start for the Future”. 43 percent of the supported projects are aimed at education and skills development, 35 percent deal with physical and mental health, while 27 percent are aimed at building community activities and relationships.
The supermarket chain regularly announces a tender program to support the implementation of initiatives that develop children, young people and local communities. Information about the next round can be found on the website www.tesco.hu/kozosseg.
