The Tourism Business Index is two years old
On June 5, the Tourism Business Index (TKI) celebrated its second birthday at the a&o Hostel. The press conference jointly organized by the National Association of Tourism and Hospitality Employers (VIMOSZ), the Hungarian Tourism Association Foundation (MTSZA) and the Gazdasságkutató Zrt. (GKI) was opened by Zoltán Pál Pál, the president of VIMOSZ.
Zoltán Gál Pál said that the main reason for the establishment of the TKI was the lack of information in the sector, especially in the uncertain period after Covid-19. The aim of the index is to help decision-makers, provide forecasts and provide adequate information to the public. He emphasized that during the two years, the index achieved a lot of press coverage and built considerable trust in the industry.
Attila Udvardi, director of GKI, presented the operation of TKI and the latest results. He emphasized that the aim of the TKI is to measure the expected development of the economy on a monthly basis and to give a real picture of the expectations of the sector’s players. Based on the results of the last two years, the index provided particularly useful information for decision-makers and other stakeholders. The index consists of five different sub-indices that measure employment, performance and operating costs. In May, the index stood at +4 points, which means that it has been showing an increasing trend since November 2023 and since January 2023 it has been considered a leading sector of the national economy among the other GKI business confidence indexes.
