The country is divided into two camps – is quick-frozen fried meat better fried in oil or without oil?
8 out of 10 Hungarians consume quick-frozen, breaded meats available in stores. The majority of them (78%) believe that the popularity of these products mainly lies in the ease and quickness of their preparation, according to a recent, nationally representative survey commissioned by VALDOR. However, opinions differ on how to perfectly prepare the store-bought version of one of Hungarians’ favorite dishes, quick-frozen fried meat. We show the results.
For most of us, frying in plenty of oil is the usual way of preparing fried meat at home, as we saw from our mothers and grandmothers when preparing Sunday lunch. But what about store-bought, quick-frozen, breaded meat?
Almost half of the respondents also stick to the “well-proven” method for quick-frozen, breaded meat: they also fry it in plenty of oil, because they believe that this way the end result will be perfect. The opposite camp is also significant, there are roughly the same number (45%) of people – among the younger ones even more (64%) – who prefer cooking without oil, in an oven or air fryer, because they think the food will be healthier this way.
“Those who prefer to fry without oil do it better, because quick-frozen deep-fried meats are typically ready-fried, so no additional oil is needed to prepare them. The oil-free preparation method is also indicated on the packaging of VALDOR products. Prepared on this basis, the end result will be perfect: well-done, but not dry meat and crispy breadcrumbs. Not to mention that if we don’t fry with oil, there won’t be an oil smell in the apartment either. The fact that there is no need for bulk shopping in the case of quick-frozen, store-bought deep-fried meat – not to mention the upheaval associated with breading – is just icing on the cake. In addition, hot food is not delivered to the table in almost a quarter of an hour, even with a food order.”
Melinda Dén, senior product and packaging development manager, said on behalf of VALDOR.
Only 11 percent of the Hungarian adult population responding to the survey think that you can make a variety of meals from the quick-frozen, breaded meat available in the store thanks to the wide selection of flavors and types of products.
This result is surprising because the selection is quite wide. In addition to the traditional natural fried meat and cordon bleu, we can now provide a varied meal for the family with countless exciting variants.
