Food prices on two years peak
According to the estimations of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO); Food prices rose to their more than two years of peak in September, mainly due to the increase of wheat and sugar prices.
The FAO food price index – which measures the global monthly price changes on the base of a specified food basket – was 188 points in August. This is the highest, since August 2008. In August, the index was 175.9 points. According to the analysts of FAO; the grain product price index was 208 points in September, increasing by 12.4 percent, compared to the datas of August. The sugar price index increased by 20 percent to 315.5 points in a month – reports szabadfold.hu.
