Joint works of two- and six-legged artists in the museum – Picture of the day
Japanese paper, gold leaf, embroidery thread, glass beads, natural honeycomb – which is the cuckoo egg? None of Ava Roth’s creations! The Toronto-based artist works with bee colonies, and his works emphasize natural processes and the charm of organic aesthetics. The creation of his mixed-technique compositions placed in wooden frames complete with rounded shapes reminiscent of embroidery hoops begins with Roth’s carefully stitched motifs and beaded decorations. After completing “his part”, he places the works in the hives of his six-legged collaborators for them to build their wax edifices on.
