The environmental project of the Mercedes-Benz Factory in Kecskemét was awarded two prizes

Both the Portfolio.hu Green Awards and the Trade magazin Symbol of Sustainability competition awarded prizes to the Mercedes-Benz Factory in Kecskemét for its environmental initiative to create a barn swallow nesting wall. The environmental project aims to support the conservation of the bird species and help study the population by creating a safe nesting site. The barn swallow population has decreased significantly in recent years, and the successful implementation of the project launched to save them was rewarded with two awards: it won the Symbol of Sustainability award in the CSR environmental category at the Trade magazine competition, and it earned the Special Award of the Board of Trustees at the Green Cloud and Portfolio Group Green Awards 2025 competition.

The initiative was implemented with the cooperation of experts from the Kiskunság National Park. The first bird ringing took place in 2024 in the area of ​​the Mercedes-Benz Factory, so this year the first comparative data are also of great importance from a nature conservation perspective, as the information obtained through ringing helps to monitor the population. This year’s bird ringing event was attended not only by the company’s employees, but also by students from the Mercedes-Benz Elementary and High School in Kecskemét, and the children were actively involved in both the observation and educational activities. Thanks to the project, the barn swallows will be able to breed at the factory for at least 10 years.

In addition to this initiative, several other sustainability projects and measures have been implemented at the Kecskemét factory in recent years. The company has set itself the goal of increasing the ecological value of green areas. For example, a grove of 150 trees and 350 shrubs was created, and bird feeders and nesting boxes can be found throughout the factory. By conceptually transforming the existing areas, the Mercedes-Benz Kecskemét plant can provide more space for various animal and plant species.
