No revolution in e-commerce yet
According to Geometry Global’s Connected Shopper study – conducted with the participation of more than 9,000 internet users above the age of 15, in 12 countries on 4 continents – only 7 percent of participants purchase goods routinely online.
Chief strategy officer Cesar Montes concluded that the revolution in e-commerce is being delayed because of several reasons. Physical stores and high street shopping are still important in consumers’ lives. They also see many safety, data protection and other type obstacles in online shopping. However, in his view the trend is positive – this is indicated by the fact that the proportion of those who buy online once a month surged from 59 to 89 percent in the last 3 years. Some of the survey’s results: only 26 percent of participants said for them it is worth to give their personal data in exchange for the advantages of buying online. At the same time 69 percent think e-commerce makes life easier. 88 percent of participants said they primarily visit physical stores to see products ‘live’ and 65 percent learn about prices there. It is noteworthy that already 60 percent use their smartphones or tablets in-store to compare prices or take photos of products. 40 percent of the survey’s participants see no point in ‘making friends’ with brands online. 70 percent of consumers would like to receive geographical location-based offers or coupons on their mobiles. Mr Montes pointed out that the study points out valuable opportunities for brand owners to improve customers’ shopping experience in digital channels
