Watermelon season delays
Compared to the previous year, watermelon season will slip by three weeks, beginning on the 10th of July this year – said the president of the Hungarian Watermelon Association.
Simonka George said that the late start is caused by the cool and wet weather of May. The flood and hail, however, not only delayed the maturation but destroyed the plants on thousands of acres. The country has seven thousand hectares of cultivated water melon, but this year crop will be grown on only six thousand hectares of land – reports Origo.
