It is important to learn about the amount of work that goes into producing agricultural products, and the National Agricultural and Food Exhibition and Fair (OMÉK) will provide a good opportunity for this, said former President János Áder in the latest episode of his podcast, Blue Planet, published on Monday.

The chairman of the board of trustees of the Blue Planet Climate Protection Foundation spoke with Péter Ondré, the managing director of the Agrármarketing Centrum, about the National Agricultural and Food Exhibition and Fair (OMÉK) to be held by AMC between September 18-21.

Péter Ondré explained that the OMÉK helps the general public understand the importance of the sector.

He said that we take it for granted that food is available on the shelves in such a variety and of such quality, but behind this lies the operation of an entire sector, “burdened with constant challenges”.

He believed that it was important to bring domestic farmers and consumers closer together, and OMÉK provides an opportunity for this.

He also said that in relation to sustainability, we usually examine how agriculture contributes to achieving environmental goals and what impact climate change has on agriculture. But sustainability is also about ensuring that production itself is sustainable and that we can put an affordable product on store shelves at a good price-value ratio. This requires consumers to understand how the sector works, and on the other hand, to develop a “patriotic attachment to domestic farmers”, and personal relationships developed at OMÉK can also play a role in this.
