Crisis helps Hungarian wines?

The difficult economic situation valorises domestic tourism, foreign tourists also choose closer locations instead of exotic trips. If they are visiting our country, they surely taste local wines – believe the oenologists.

Wine sector is characterized by the fact that wine usually consumed in the home country. So in Hungary, foreign and domestic tourists drink Hungarian wine as well. It is not a crisis but also the cheap imported wines are the biggest challenge for the domestic vineries. Officially 200 thousand hectoliters, according to some estimates, one million hectoliters imported into the country per year. The traditional Hungarian wine-growing is power-and hand-intensive, so the costs are higher – The quality of wine is particularly good, therefore the price / performance ratio is still attractive in Europe.
