A new scheme will help livestock farmers affected by foot-and-mouth disease, in the Széchenyi Card Program, which is coordinated by Kavosz, they will soon be able to use a new, zero-percent interest, subsidized overdraft facility without handling costs and other loan fees – Kavosz Zrt. announced to MTI on Friday.

They emphasized that the aim of the measure is to provide fast and effective financial assistance to farmers and support the long-term stability of the agricultural sector, on the one hand to ensure animal health safety and the continuity of the food supply chain, and on the other hand to maintain economic stability in the livestock sector. The condition for participating in the scheme is that the affected enterprises attach to their loan application a declaration according to the template published by Kavosz Zrt. regarding their involvement in accordance with the application conditions. The application conditions are published in detail on the website of Kavosz Zrt. – they informed. It was recalled that foot-and-mouth disease appeared in Hungary in March 2025, after more than five decades, and caused serious economic damage in cattle, pig, sheep and goat farming. Due to the strict measures introduced to prevent the spread of the infection and the temporary loss of export markets, many farmers suffered significant loss of income.

In 2024, the export value of live ungulates was HUF 138 billion, and the export of meat and by-products for food purposes was HUF 220.8 billion

The interest-free loan option not only provides short-term financial assistance to the affected livestock keepers and processing companies, but also contributes to the long-term stability of the agricultural sector and the smooth operation of the food chain.
